Men Nguyen Is the Master of the Legends of Poker
Bicycle Casino's Legends of Poker is more than halfway over, and it s time to take the temperature of the tourney to see just how well poker is going in California during this economic downturn that the president is calling a Wall Street hangover.
Entries are slightly down in some events and slightly up in others so far this year when compared to last year, and it started with the first event, a $300 buy-in no-limit hold em tournament. This year, there were 797 entrants, 136 entries less than the same kick-off event of the series last year. In 2006, the first event, a $200 no-limit hold em contest, attracted 657 entrants.
The first $500 no-limit hold em event this year, event No. 3, attracted 295 players, while the first $500 event last year, event No. 2, attracted 333. Both events took place on the weekends.
A Saturday $1,000 no-limit event, stuck right in the middle of the Legends of Poker schedule for both years, attracted 292 players. The same event last year attracted 287. This winner of this year s event was Ishdeep Hazuria
Legends of Poker events. First he won Sunday's rebuy event, which was good for $67,500. Last year s winner, Jerome Magnum, won $138,577.
