Divisional Playoffs
Divisional champions Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings and the San Diego Chargers have all received bye in the Wild Card Playoff round. They will enter the frame in the Divisional Playoffs on the 16th or 17th of January to face the winners of the Playoff Wild Card matches.
New Orleans Saints vs. Arizona Cardinals
This is one hell of a matchup after watching the Arizona Cardinal offensive display go all crazy on the Packers in the Wild Card Weekend. The New Orleans Saints are the league's top scoring team and with MVP candidate Quarterback Drew Brees on fire in the regular season, it will be a stern test for Cardinals to stop Brees golden arm. The Saints are ranked 24th in the NFL for their defense so it looks like their offensive button is their best defense tactic this coming Saturday. The Saints are 6-2 in their overall home record, the two defeats came in the last three games in the season, losing to Dallas Cowboys 24-17 and Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-17 in overtime.
If anything was to go by their game against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card weekend, then all signs are pointing Touchdown as the solution to their march to the Superbowl. Their win against the Packers was the highest scoring game in the NFL playoff and they could continue to set new records at the Louisiana Superdome on Saturday. Apart from their electrifying offensive, despite without Anquan Boldin, their defense might not be able to cope with the Saints, if they were to give away points like they did in the 4th quarter against the Packers. Quarterback Kurt Wagner will need to bring his A game to New Orleans.
Anything can happen in the first divisional playoff game this weekend at the Louisiana Superdome. The Saints are one of the best teams in the NFL with Quarterback Drew Brees doing over 4,000 passing yard and recording 34 TDs. He is certainly the man to lead the Saints to the Superbowl. Anything is possible with the Cardinals, they played well but defended badly. They showed signs of compliancy and maybe that's not championship material. Fight fire with fire is the motto and Saints are favorites.
Minnesota Vikings vs. Dallas Cowboys
One record that will make people not go against the Vikings is that they are undefeated at home. Their overall home record is 8-0 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in the regular season so they are inferior to defeat in front of their own fans. The Vikings are enjoying their success as long as Quarterback Brett Favure is throwing the ball and their running back continues to stride as the best in the NFL this season. This is certainly one of the formulas in NFL to win the Superbowl but can they go all the way?
The Dallas Cowboys were outstanding against the Philadelphia Eagles last weekend. Their 34-14 win over the Eagles is just the start of many good things to come. It seems that Quarterback Tony Romo certainly showed on the field that the Cowboys can do it this season. The Cowboys does look like a well balanced team with their players really believing they are good enough to go all the way. The only worrying factor about the Cowboys is that their road record stands at 5-3 where they lost to the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and New York Giants.
On paper we have two teams that are amongst the top 10 defense in the NFL and this could be a close game. The Viking is banking on the Brett Favure era to shine while the Cowboys are just heating up. One team will go through and since the Vikings have the home advantage, they could go on to the Conference final. The Cowboys will need to be aggressive and blitz Favure like there is no tomorrow.
