Dan Gross Close call for traffic reporter

Book:

CBS 3 S Bob Kelly is usually the one reporting on accidents on I-95, but Saturday night the traffic anchor was part of a three-vehicle crash near Woodhaven Road.

Kelly, who was on-air yesterday despite a sore rib cage and arm, was heading home from a wedding in his month-old silver Range Rover in the right lane when a car in the left lane swerved into the center, forcing a minivan there into Kelly s lane.

All three vehicles, Kelly said, ended up on the side of the road. His rock-solid Range Rover was the only vehicle not to flip over.

Kelly says a state trooper on the scene told him that the female driving the left lane car would be cited for DUI.

She and her female passenger were taken to Frankford Torresdale Hospital. The experience was surreal for Kelly, who is used to pointing at video screens showing viewers crash delays.

Wow, did I just step out of the camera and onto 95? Kelly remembers asking himself, while shaken up after the crash. He felt like I got punched in the nose, by his deployed air bag.

Kelly, whose traffic updates are also heard on 94 WYSP and 98.1 WOGL, didn t want to scare his wife, Colleen, or wake their two daughters, so he called a buddy for a lift home to Mount Laurel.

Poker amateur wins big $$$

Moorestown s Adam Gerber is $604,000 richer after winning the United States Poker Championship Sunday at Atlantic City s Trump Taj Mahal. Gerber, 36, sales manager at Provident Packaging in the Northeast, has been playing poker for only three years, and studied the game for a year before ever playing.

He won $300,000 and second place at a World Poker Tour event last month. Gerber says although he was a pretty bad student at Abington High and at the University of Delaware, he and his teachers always knew I had something, and I found it. There s not much luck involved with poker, it s all skill. His wife, Melissa, cheered him on over the weekend. Gerber, a family man, enjoys practicing his hands online after putting sons Daniel, 4, and Jack, 2, to bed.
