How Jeff Fenech Fanned The Flame For A Third Azumah Nelson Fight

A three-time world champion in three weight classes, Fenech won the WBC junior featherweight world title from Payakarun by 4th round knockout in May 1987.

While he had last fought in May 1996, once he had decided to take the fight, Fenech had no concerns that he could beat the Thai any day of the week.

Azumah Nelson in Ghana, just in case a win over Payakarun led to the desire for another fight.

Fenech telephoned Nelson and they agreed to a third match almost immediately.

Both of their previous battles were memorable. In June 1991 in Las Vegas, Fenech moved up in weight to challenge the WBC junior lightweight world champion. Whilst attempting to win his fourth world title in his fourth weight class, Fenech appeared to completely overwhelm Nelson over the twelve rounds, only to have the fight scored a draw. Nine months later in March 1992, Fenech was a raging hot favourite to beat Nelson at the Princes Park Football Ground in Melbourne, outdoors in front of a crowd of over 37,000 people.

Nelson exploded from the opening bell and knocked Fenech to the canvas in the first, second and eighth rounds. While he bravely beat the count on all three occasions, referee Arthur Mercante stopped the bout at the 2:20 minute mark of the eighth round with Fenech taking unanswered blows to the head.

Such a beating had Fenech dispensed to Nelson during their first fight without getting the win, The Ring magazine named the second fight their

When speaking to Nelson to arrange their third fight at the Vodafone Arena in Melbourne on Tuesday night June 24, Fenech did not know that the 49 year-old had already been in training twice a day for a comeback in a proposed fight with Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez. The younger boxer had offered to have their fight over eight rounds, but Nelson would not hear of it and wanted twelve. It was eventually agreed to have the fight over ten rounds.

What I can say is that these two guys are two warriors. I am not being disrespectful to the fight game, but over the last decade we have seen a lot of boxers who certainly have not brought to the table what these two are going to bring. That is the sad part about boxing today. It hurts me today when people say they won

While overall receipts from the Main Event Television and Fox Sports Pub & Club Vision pay-per-view fight would not be known until after the event, both Fenech and Nelson, while not given a guarantee, are set to be paid at least US$1 million each depending on the financial success of the night. Fenech has proudly predicted that his fight would out sell the third Anthony Mundine-Sam Soliman WBA super middleweight world title fight that was recently held in Melbourne on May 28.

Speculation by the public continued as to the exact reasons why the fight is actually going ahead.

For Nelson, a sporting and business

Radisson Maine Property Group in 2004. He had also been forced to take a $1 million loan out, the first of his life, to see the completion of renovations to his Five Dock mansion.

But after some restructuring of his finances and the collection of some large outstanding monies that were owed to him from property developments and other investments, Fenech now says that he is financially sound and is not fighting again just for the money.

But there was something else lost in Fenech

His sterling reputation was not what it once was in Australia after his involvement in a minor watch theft incident on the Gold Coast in December 2005.

While his one time friend Francis (Frank) Grech had earlier pleaded guilty to the theft of the three watches and claimed to be acting alone, in October 2007 Fenech was fined $750 but escaped a conviction after pleading guilty to one count of stealing two watches valued at a total of $221.

Fox Sports, screened over four consecutive Tuesday nights on May 27 and June 3, 10 & 17.

At a May 29 show launch party at Circular Quay in a bar overlooking Sydney Harbour, Fenech addressed his family, friends, supporters and other celebrities in attendance and gave them an insight as to reasons he was fighting again.

Fenech was presented with an old 1989 copy of World Boxing magazine, a sister publication of The Ring.

Inside, respected editor Steve Farhood, who also spent time many years as editor of The Ring, had compiled a statistical list of the Top-30 boxers in the world pound for pound, in June 1989. Fenech was rated at No.3, only behind the then unbeaten

The magazine was a timely reminder of how highly regarded Fenech was as a fighter in the world of boxing, which led to his induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame via first ballot, in Canastota, New York in June 2002.

Back at the Cruise Bar in Circular Quay, Fenech proudly showed the World Boxing magazine and his No.3 ranking to all of his friends and guests in attendance. There was a sparkle in his eyes and pride in his heart, something that had disappeared from him to a point over the last five years.

It wasn

Fenech had wanted to get out of boxing altogether. He had disbanded his Team Fenech training team and minimised the boxers he was working with. Vic Darchinyan took over the lease of his Team Fenech gymnasium at Marrickville as Fenech claimed to be sick of the politics and the bullshit in the sport.

Away from boxing the times were also tough. Fenech was attacked by four men in a street fight at Brighton-Le-Sands in Sydney. There was also an unsolved drive-by shooting at his temporary home in Lilyfield in June 2004, when he and his family were absent.

While he may not have known it at the time, Fenech had become subconsciously angry and bitter with life.

But looking at Fenech today, the old enthusiasm and passion are back and it is written all over his face. He is simply doing what he loves again and he is a happy man.

Max Markson.

The only thing that could possibly trouble Fenech right now is the nagging injuries he will carry into the fight with Nelson.

Even in his youth Fenech had problems with his hands being so brittle. He carried two broken hands into his fight with Marcos Villasana in April 1989, the pain being so intense that after the twelve round points win, a teary eyed Fenech announced his premature retirement in the ring.

Now at the age of 44, nothing has changed and Fenech

Respected Sydney Doctor Lou Lewis, a veteran ringside physician, told Fenech his hands would not stand up to the punishment of another boxing training camp.

Fenech simply shrugged his shoulders and got back to work. He has lost over 22kgs coming down from nearly 90kg (198lbs).

While Fenech wants a limit of 66kg (145lbs) for this ten round fight, he is prepared to give Nelson a

During his promotional trip to Australia, Nelson claimed to have lost close to 15kg.

Sparring with former world champion Gairy St Clair and middleweight Peter Mitrevski Jr, Fenech continued to punish his hands and broke his ribs in May. Regardless of the pain, the fight will continue and Fenech has no doubt that he will still be successful.

He did that when he was a teenager right through to his retirement. He has come out of retirement and he has still got this tremendous desire to drive and drive his body. The last week down there is very, very important to us. Jeff has got to listen to his body and get into the ring as fresh as he can be.

In official betting, the Centrebet agency in Australia currently has Jeff Fenech listed as a $1.55 favourite to win with Azumah Nelson at $2.40.

Perhaps to get closer to the answer as to why Jeff Fenech is fighting again, you have to go back to where his rivalry with Azumah Nelson all began.

The WBC junior lightweight world title clash was on the Mike Tyson-Donavon Ruddock rematch card at the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, USA. Held in the outdoor carpark and bathed in the fading sunshine of the hot summer afternoon with the world watching.

After Nelson had boxed well to win the first two rounds, the non-stop punching fury of Fenech swept the proud African warrior away over the remaining ten rounds, to the point of almost stopping him.

The ring announcer then delivered the shocking verdict of a draw, 115-113, 114-114 and 112-116. Viewers back in Australia watched in anguish as the passion erupted in Fenech, inconsolable as he tried to come to terms with this scoring robbery. A tidal wave of anger was the only response. There were boos and screams of anguish from Fenech fans around the world, who felt that their boxer had won and it wasn

Slightly ahead of his ten round points win over Mexican great Daniel Zaragoza in Perth in April 1986, eleven years before Zaragoza was still a world champion and giving rising superstar Erik Morales all he could handle.

In June 2004, Fenech was at the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York to see the inductions of Daniel Zaragoza and Azumah Nelson. Through his interpreter son, Zaragoza was forthcoming in admitting that Fenech had beaten him up while he was still in his prime.

Jeff Fenech. The fighting spirit inside of him that took him to four world titles, regardless of what the judges said in Las Vegas, will always be with him.

It was with him when he made bantamweight for the final time against Steve McCrory by simply starving and dehydrating his body. It was with him the night he beat Marcos Villasana with two broken hands. It was with him against Philip Holiday as he valiantly tried to kick his corner

Playing poker for real money is fundamentally different than playing play money. Rules may be the same, but the difference is that in people s bets. When the outcome of doing something different, more people are considered when they actually put money into the pot. We call on this play, strict .

The higher the stakes, the more stringent of the game.

Move, to play the money from real money, you will have to tighten your game, as well as, or you will inevitably lose money. Aim is to play the game a little strict than your opponent. But the low-limit table, there is no problem. The game is still quite loose, in any case.

Selection Table

Size table before a decision is the first time, playing poker table is the size. The strategy for the game, 10 players is completely different from the table, the two players heads of state of the game. Select a type of table and stick to it to ensure that you understand it.

In general one can say, it s more difficult to play, no restrictions, over the prescribed limit of the game, it is more difficult to play short-term by a more complete list of 10 players.

Opponents choose your opponent is a powerful trick, the success of poker. By choosing suitable opponent, you maximize your opportunities, profitable success. You do not have to the best players in the world is profitable, in poker, you must be better than the players on your table. (In fact, you need not be the best player in the table, for as long as you know who the good players!).

Looking for players, you are better than that.

The first and most obvious advise on your opponent is to identify and play in, your own level. Secondly, there is some statistical information, in the hotel lobby, you can use.

Restrictions, in this document, we mean we are talking about the low-limit table and 0.5 yuan - 1 yuan and 1 yuan -2 yuan. Information here should be sufficient for you to play on this level.

Played in two yuan -4 00 yuan and 3 - 6 yuan you need to understand the concept, described here in a little deeper and get some experience, to play.

Statistical information to help you find the right table, you can use statistics in the lobby of the hotel. The percentage of failures over the percentage is the most important figures in determining the quality of players on the table. It shows how many players failed to pay to see. It will provide a good indication as to how loose the game. In a table of 10 seats will be 25% and 40% very tight, very loose.

The average size of the pot Another useful figure is a pot size average. It will also provide an indication on how loose the game. If the basin, the players are more likely to contribute to

Betting round

This section will let you in on how to use your play, play money from real money, in various stages of the hand.

Former right-hand flip-flop play

The first decision is to select the hands you play. To learn more about it in the hands of play, to play for them, it recommended that you read a good poker book. A good rule of thumb is to play fewer hands than your opponents.

In loose low limit games, pots, often with large, so that appropriate connector (or even low) better for you to win big pots for flush or straight.

Small double is good, if there is a lot of calls.

High card, sometimes not so good, you may immediately think of. (For example, QT dispersion to meet the needs of that is not usually a good, the other 10 players on the table)

And over

The failure to give up bad, if failure is not appropriate, to abandon it. This is a very high hopes, some from the failure. In many cases, you will not often others, will make even better hands when you actually do improve.

With a straight draw in straight draw is usually not good to bet, unless there is a lot of money in the pot already and may be made is very small.

Rinse and straight, a flush draw from in or outside the direct trigger is usually a good thing. If there are other people in a pot, and strive to improve - if it does not scare people off - to get more money, as you will win your fair share of hands.

Two-pocket pockets of those on intellectual property rights has not yet made up over and over on the card is not good. The opportunity to raise the turn, is very small.

Fear, it is important to identify fear on the table. This is a failure, can be made to draw other players. In such circumstances, you may win a lower frequency than the one on top of a pair

Continuous or nearly cards, is likely to draw some people straight. Two consecutive cards may be addressed to the two pairs (more connectors played by other than the card)

1 2 flush on the board significantly reduce the profits of direct reference. One in four card, you are waiting for someone to be flushed! To turn on the turn, the turnover increase. Here s an opportunity for a lot of money to win or lose. Management, so that the bet, at the turn, you will win and no bets, you will lose in any case, makes a winner in low-limit Texas Hold em! (It is easy to do that, though!) Inspection, the regular check, and increase the premium at the turn of the hand, as you carry out regular checks / collapse at the turn of the hands of fewer, in any case. In this way, your opponent will not be able to read your hand effectively.

Recognition of betting and made in low-limit games, Huren is not very common, leading to another kind of unwritten rule of thumb:

First, raise the turn, almost always means that other players have a good hand

This is particularly true when there are more than two players in the pot. Do not be surprised if the opponent s intellectual property rights, or to flush / straight.

Do not bet drew in turn, the probability of your hand, much lower than on the up, and the number of opponents demand may be less. Inspection and asked often is the correct approach, but most bets are wrong. (Unless you think you can intimidate opponents).

Inspection of the River weak hand, usually you should bet out on the river, if you think you have a strong hand. There is one exception, though. If you have a hand, it is good at over, but improving, (like a top and a pair of weak kick), continue to bet and justice, known as the entire hand, you should probably check. The reason for this is that this is not possible, your hand should be called and you (so that you do not profit from betting) and you bear the risks, some people have proposed a stronger hand on the river (perhaps 12 pairs), And will raise you (make you lose money). This is a typical no profit for the risk of the situation.

To see it, often through the river have enough money in the pots to make it worthwhile for the stake, even if you re not sure if you have the best hand

Funds are on the verge of a poker game. Play better than rivals, you get the advantage and win money. There, but a big factor in short-term opportunities, may result in fluctuations. Play consistently, you need to have sufficient funds to survive.

Even a very good poker Player may have a bad day, a bad week or bad month!

In low-limit poker, you can deal with this situation lose your entire capital, because it is easier to manage in small amounts. Play high-stakes will need perhaps 1 million U.S. dollars in funds, it is difficult to replace if lost.

A good start funds could reach 100 small bets. ($ 1 -2 yuan in the table, which will be 1 00 yuan deposit.) Play a conservative will give you a buffer zone for the loss of stripes. Deposited less money, of course, is possible, but you should be prepared more deposits, are unlucky to meet an advantage.

To win and, more importantly, the establishment of your funds to be able to try a higher stakes table. This way, you can move up within the scope allowed to have any deposits.

Large pots in the multi-way pots of large multinational companies, how many players went to the river all the way to a number of miracles, rivers, so that your opponent in the hands of an increase. It s all a question of probability.

On the other hand, potted plants, a large, there is no betting on a bad hand, you do not win too many pots the end of a winner.

Know to refresh and straights, and the possibility of a third party s intellectual property rights, so you do not need to pay over the odds unnecessary, or at the turn of the river.

Secretary-General on the Huren, loose in the low-limit poker, Huren is generally a bad thing and will not be profitable. Huren people use nearly drove them off. It is a good thing can sometimes caught in a bluff early in the game to attract more calls, you have a good hand, in the game.
