CASA to receive volunteer award
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties accepted an award from the Gloucester County Volunteer Center Monday for its excellence in volunteer service opportunities.
CASA is a private, nonprofit organization that recruits, trains, supervises and supports volunteers to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in the foster care system and other out of home placements; in order to ensure them safe, loving and permanent homes. Without these individual independent advocates children could spend their most vulnerable and impressionable years not connected to a permanent family.
CASA advocate Jackie Tirpak was awarded the Presidential Award for her commitment and services to children.
Volunteers work directly with the court system for the outcome of a permanent home for a child who has been abused or neglected. Volunteers come from all walks of life, and there is no education or prior experience required.
The next training session begins in September.
