This Wednesday, connected Xbox 360 owners will be able to try their hand at a twist on the match-three puzzle game staple with Poker Smash. And here I was going to mention Gun Dealer, but someone beat me to it. That game was actually quite fun -- good enough to play in mixed company despite the 16-color nudity.
Though I really begin to wonder about all these live arcade remakes. Why rip off old games when you could actually make something new? We certainly haven't exhausted the all the potential gameplay out there yet. Shouldn't live be the kind of microcontent distribution system which fosters creativity, instead of foisting endless remakes and re-releases? Instead we get a crushing pile of repeat-ware -- heck, there are probably perfectly creative people out there right now working hard to do something that's already been done just so they can sell it again.
I hate to be didactic, but, folks, don't let industry sell you old ideas. If it isn't creative, don't buy it. (Go play the original instead.)
